Systems Commissioning Technician

Reports to: Quality Control & Technical Support Manager

Department: Operations

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt


POSITION SUMMARY

The system commissioning technician position entails travel to customer sites to oversee the installation and commissioning of Logix system controls products. Technician provides onsite technical expertise to customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Travel to customer sites (approximately 40-65% of the time) throughout the U.S. and Canada to verify installation and configuration of Logix software and hardware products.
  • Provide technical support to customer during and post-installation.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and network issues at the customer site via computer, and coordinate with the Logix project engineer and/or refrigeration/electrical contractor(s) to resolve issues.
  • Perform occasional software programming as needed.
  • Train customers (onsite and remotely by phone) on product use, energy-efficiency optimization features, and system maintenance.
  • Assist project managers with equipment verfication, computer-graphics designing, and drafting program specifications at Logix headquarters.
  • Interact with engineering team regarding product improvements based on field experience.
  • When not traveling to sites, provide telephone support remotely from headquarters.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, you must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience: A related degree from a technical college or trade school is preferred. Three to five years' experience operating and/or servicing industrial refrigeration systems and their control is preferred.

Technical Skills and Experience Required: Proficiency with and knowledge of computer systems analysis and programming. Familiarity with MS Office Suite. Excellent electrical and electronic troubleshooting skills. Experience with PSM and OSHA compliance. Advanced knowledge of refrigeration principles and applications is a plus.

Certificates and Licenses: Must have a valid driver's license and passport with no international travel restrictions for entry into foreign countries.

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and co-workers.

Math Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The work is typically performed at the client worksite, in an industrial setting. In these settings, employee may be exposed to working near mechanical equipment in extreme cold conditions (non-weather related). This position is not a trades position, such as an electrician or mechanic. Trouble-shooting tasks and installation oversight, as described in Essential Duties and Responsibilities, are primarily performed using a desktop computer, and are communicated verbally.

To perform this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to reach and feel with arms and hands, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee may occasionally be required to climb or balance. Employee must be able to lift at least 50 pounds on occasion.

Position occasionally entails work on weekends and evenings as needed to meet applicable deadlines. Extensive travel (up to 65%) within North America is required. Occasional international travel may also be required.
